Chef Andrew Haapala will represent The Country Club of Virginia as part of a three-team competition in the 2014 Williamsburg Area Restaurant Association’s Iron Chef Wine & Food Expo, to be held Saturday, April 12, at the Williamsburg Lodge, the Newport News (Va.) Daily Press reported.
Making up the Richmond, Va., team, joining Haapala, are Todd Richardson of The Blue Goat and Matt Coleman of The Savory Grain, the Press reported.
The Williamsburg, Va., team is comprised of Chris Long of Second Street, Justin Addison of Colonial Williamsburg and David McClure of Berret’s Seafood Restaurant. And the Virginia Beach, Va., team is Brad Kelly of Catch 31 and Salacia, Pete Stine of Steinhilber’s and Todd Ramsey of Hot Tuna. Kevin Sharkey of Fusion is the alternate chef, the Press reported.
Each team will prepare dishes from a basket of ingredients for the judges to taste. The judging panel includes David Nicholson, Patrick Evans-Hylton of Coastal Virginia magazine, Deveron Timberlake, Richmond’s Style weekly, Stephen Perkins of the Culinary Institute of Virginia, and Riana Mondavi of the Mondavi wine family, the Press reported.
Before the competition, guests can sample more than 50 international wines and hors d’oeuvres from The Cheese Shop-Merchants Square, Captain George’s, Blue Talon Bistro and Opus 9. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Williamsburg Hospice House, the Press reported.
Tickets are $60 per person, $110 per couple, available online at www.wararest.com. Tickets at $100 also are being sold for a 5:30 p.m. pre-event tasting of premium wines, the Press reported.
