The Club + Resort Chef of the Year competition is set to return at the 2025 Chef to Chef Conference, providing a challenging and rewarding platform for chefs in the club and resort industry. This competition offers chefs the opportunity to showcase their culinary skills, creativity, and ability to perform under pressure in front of a panel of respected judges.
Competition Overview
The competition will take place on Tuesday, March 25th as the conclusion of the 2025 Chef to Chef Conference. Only chefs who are registered for the event will be eligible to participate. Competitors will be judged on taste, presentation, creativity, and execution, as well as their ability to adhere to strict time constraints.
Chefs will have one hour to prepare, plate, and present four identical portions of two dishes: a small plate appetizer and an entrée. A signature mocktail will also be required to be served with either of the dishes.
“Including a signature mocktail adds an exciting challenge to the competition,” says Joanna DeChellis, Editorial Director of Club + Resort Chef. “With more members seeking sophisticated alcohol-free options, clubs are now expected to create drinks that are as complex and flavorful as their dishes. The mocktail category will challenge competitors to innovate, pushing them to think creatively and match the level of artistry they bring to the food.”
Key Rules and Regulations
The competition follows a set of detailed rules designed to ensure a fair and consistent experience for all participants.
Key guidelines include:
- Time Constraints: The small plate appetizer must be served at the 45-minute mark, and the entrée must be plated at the 60-minute mark. Late plates will result in penalties.
- Ingredients: A standardized pantry will be provided, but competitors can bring up to three personal ingredients to enhance their dishes. These ingredients must be pre-approved and adhere to specific requirements (e.g., no pre-cooked items).
- Judging Criteria: A panel of experienced club chefs will score dishes based on the following breakdown: taste (40%), presentation (20%), creativity (15%), execution (15%), and timing (10%).
- Sanitation and Organization: Competitors must follow food safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workstation.
