How Are Clubs Implementing Technology In Kitchen Operations and Member Services?

Clubs are adopting innovative digital solutions to make the dining experience more efficient, reduce costs and improve member satisfaction.

By Lauren Newman, Contributing Writer | March 7, 2024

In the ever-evolving dining industry, staying ahead of the curve is critical, and finding ways to put the latest technological breakthroughs to use are no exception to the industry. As the digital age continues to transform the way we dine out, restaurant technology trends have emerged as powerful tools reshaping the dynamics of the restaurant business. From streamlining operations to enhancing member experiences, integrating cutting-edge new restaurant technology has become synonymous with success.

QR Codes

QR codes are unique icons that a diner can scan with their phone or other smart device and then instantly connect to a specific website or app. In the prevailing contactless era, auto-scanning barcodes allow members to access online menus, order, and even pay for their orders by performing a simple scan on their mobile phone. With the ability to reduce the cost of printing and maintaining paper or laminated menus, QR codes are slowly replacing menus. When using QR codes to implement a table-ordering system, ordering becomes simple and quick for members, waiting times are reduced while serving more diners, and sales are increased by letting members order more menu items easily.

Kitchen Display Systems

Kitchen display systems (KDS) are digital menu boards that replace paper-based orders for kitchen staff that help restaurants streamline back-of-house operations. This technology improves operations by creating synergy between the front-of-house and the kitchen, enabling them to take member orders and confirm whether those orders are ready in a more efficient way. These screens help kitchen staff by displaying incoming orders based on priority and flags any special dietary requests, making food preparation more efficient, and ensuring that orders are accurate and timely. Digital kitchen displays promise a sustainable kitchen operation by ensuring better communication, clearer workflows, and accuracy.

Handheld POS Devices

Handheld POS devices are technology tools that servers can carry with them to each of their tables. A handheld POS device is typically more accurate and efficient than servers recording orders on a notepad or remembering the order until they can tell the kitchen staff in person. If you integrate POS technology throughout your entire restaurant, a server’s handheld POS device can automatically send customer orders to the kitchen when a server touches a button.

Inventory Management Software

Inventory management can be a time-consuming task for clubs. It involves keeping track of ingredients and supplies to avoid food waste while ensuring everything is available when needed. Automated inventory management software can handle all aspects of inventory on its own. Inventory management software automates these tasks, making it easier to keep the right amount of stock on hand while reducing food waste, controlling costs, increasing efficiency, and providing a smoother dining experience. An automated inventory management program can perform functions such as tracking your stock levels, anticipating how much you need of different items for your next order and placing those orders automatically.

Online Table Reservation System

An online table reservation system helps clubs manage bookings and provide members with a great dining experience. Providers such as OpenTable, Eat App and Wisely enable members to see available slots and make reservations on the go. By leveraging technology-enabled table reservation systems, clubs can manage waitlists, seating, and dining preferences. An online reservation system reduces the number of times staff answers the phones and manually inputs information, helps optimize table arrangements and maximize utilization of available seats, reduces wait times, and creates a convenient experience for members with smoother dining experiences.

These restaurant technology trends offer unique solutions for clubs to run their restaurants more efficiently. As a result, clubs have more time to focus on member satisfaction while creating unique dining experiences. However, while technology is changing the food service industry, there always needs to be friendly faces and a personal touch for members. It takes the right blend of technology and teamwork for clubs to create a successful dining experience for members.
