Hyewon Kwon, Executive Pastry Chef of Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton, Fla., says her matcha green tea tiramisu combines her love of classic Italian tiramisu with the earthy flavors of Japanese matcha.
“Merging these two cultures resulted in a dessert with a surprisingly delicious flavor profile,” says Kwon. “The matcha tiramisu is a delicious fusion of sweet mascarpone cream and the unique umami flavor of matcha tea. The ladyfingers add a touch of sweetness, making the overall experience perfectly balanced.
The texture of the mascarpone mousse paired with the soaked ladyfingers create a “comforting familiarity,” Kwon adds, while the matcha introduces an unexpected twist.
“In a culinary world where chefs are constantly seeking new fun ideas and how to create the ‘wow factor,'” says Kwon, “I feel this dish showcases how traditional recipes can be reimagined with a little creativity.”
