When temperatures rise and the greens beckon, there’s no better way to quench members’ thirst and elevate their golfing experience than with a refreshing beverage. In recent years, there’s been a noticeable shift toward ready-to-drink (RTD) canned products on the beverage cart and in halfway houses, and it’s not hard to see why this trend has gained momentum.

Canned cocktails are taking over the shelves in our local bottle shops, and distributors so golf courses are expected to meet this rising demand. They are convenient for the grab-and-go golfer, and they’re a safer way to self regulate alcohol intake, which is beneficial for both golfers and club owners. Additionally, the portability and durability of canned products make them ideal for outdoor activities, as they can be easily stored in a golf bag without the risk of spills or breakage.

It’s important to have a well-curated selection of RTD products that are sure to delight both avid golfers and casual enthusiasts. Here are a few favorites that have already taken the golf course by storm here at Commonwealth National Golf Club & Manor House (Horsham, Pa.), as well as some trending new and exciting offerings:

Stateside Vodka Soda

I consider this product the new standard in seltzers. Stateside Vodka Soda has quickly become a popular choice for golfers looking to stay refreshed on the course. These light and bubbly beverages offer a refreshing alternative to a traditional vodka and club soda. The brand is known for crisp and clean flavors with a lower alcohol content compared to other beverages. Whether it’s a hot summer day or a casual round with friends, this is a staple that I see being carried over from year to year.

Surfside Iced Tea + Vodka

This drink is also made by tried-and-true Stateside. Surfside Iced tea + Vodka is the perfect companion for a day on the golf course. These flavorful teas provide golfers with a delicious and hydrating beverage option that can help them stay focused throughout their round. With a variety of flavors to choose from, including classic as well as fruit-infused options, Surfside offers something for every golfer’s taste preferences. The natural caffeine in these teas provides a gentle boost of energy without the jitters or crash that can come from other caffeinated beverages. Additionally, the antioxidants found in tea can help support overall health and well-being, making this a smart choice for golfers looking to stay in top form.

Rosenberger’s Spiked Tea

It might sound redundant to have two types of teas on deck, but I love this one for the familiar branding. Rosenberger’s is a staple in Pennsylvania grocery stores—and Wawas—and this spiked version does not disappoint. I’d point a member who doesn’t like the taste of alcohol toward this option. Rosenberger’s offers no fruity flavors, just straight tea, but I wouldn’t be surprised if other varieties are on the horizon. With this product, you know exactly what you are getting, and for the tamest of drinkers, you could go even farther to proof this down by adding lemonade to make a very light John Daly cocktail.

Howie’s Spiked Alc-A-Chino

We have some lower-alcohol options, and now we need some higher options for the more-seasoned drinkers. Alc-A-Chino is a fantastic RTD spiked cappuccino/espresso martini that boasts a 13.5% alcohol by volume (ABV). With the extreme popularity of the espresso martini and other coffee beverages, this rookie product is set to soon be the MVP.

Alc-A-Chino provides a smooth and invigorating kick, especially beneficial for early-morning golfing sessions when players need a boost of energy to start their day. The rich coffee taste rounds out the alcohol content, creating a delightful and stimulating beverage that can keep golfers alert and focused throughout their game. Plus, the higher ABV makes this a value product. When poured over ice, golfers get two drinks for the price of one. Additionally, Alc-A-Chino offers a great alternative to traditional golf course drinks like the Bloody Mary or the transfusion. While these classic cocktails are popular choices for morning rounds, this RTD adds a touch of sophistication and indulgence to the golfing experience.

Mamitas Tequila Seltzer

When we’re talking cans in the course, light is the quality I’m searching for the most, and this drink delivers. Plus, I love the use of tequila as the base spirit. Unlike other alcoholic beverages that can leave you feeling sluggish, tequila is known for its energizing properties. In addition to the energizing effects of tequila, Mamitas Tequila Seltzer comes in a variety of delicious flavors that transport you to a tropical vacation destination. So far, I’ve tried the paloma and pineapple. They’re light and with no trace of that ‘fake sugar’ aftertaste. These seltzers most certainly add vacation vibes to the everyday golfing experience.

These are just five of the RTDs that we will be starting the season off with at Commonwealth National Golf Club & Manor House, but there is always room for more. Our members will have the opportunity to sample these products in pop-up bars throughout the season.

Although I pick the products, members certainly dictate the demand. I’m looking forward to stocking our outside venues with some really great, eye-catching products this season.
